Peropalo
A fun and different way to celebrate the carnival from the inhabitants of Villanueva de la Vera. On Sunday and Monday of Carnival, this small town dresses up as a party to recreate an ancestral tradition in which Peropalo is the protagonist. A criminal life-sized doll that fills with life the hearts of the locals and all those people who, year after year come to visit and enjoy the dances, the music and the parades of this party.
Los empalaos
Since the 16th century, in Valverde de la Vera, “los empalaos” are celebrated on Holy Thursday, in a religious and ancestral ritual in which acts of penance are performed. A religious rite that takes place in the most absolute silence, in which the penitent walks the streets making his promise or “sends” before God.
Los escobazos
Jarandilla de la Vera is filled with light on December 7th with Los Escobazos. The town becomes a spectacle of light and fire with the brooms of the locals burning while the Virgen de la Concepción crosses the streets next to them with the sound of the tamboril.
