La Vera
Precious region placed to the Northeast of Extremadura, in the south face of the Gredos mountain range. It bounds to the Northwest with the union of the river Jerte Valley, in the North and East with the province of Avila, in the South slightly with the province of Toledo and in the West with Plasencia.
This privileged geographical situation grants a microclimate that gives a soft winter and a fresh summer. Creeks, puddles and tributaries of the river Tiétar form a unique landscape: gorges, waterfalls, pools and forests.
The proximity with the Spanish capital city (2h away from Madrid) and the beautiful landscapes make of La Vera an ideal destination to enjoy in any time of the year.
Gredos range
La Sierra de Gredos is located in the central Mountain chain, separating the basins of the rivers Duero and Tajo in the southern end of the province of Avila in the community of Castilla y León, and catalogued as nature reserve and natural protected space. The area of La Vera, although still not included inside the protected area, is placed at the feet of Sierra de Gredos, admiring its impressive landscapes.
Unique Nature
The privileged microclimate of La Vera, with mild winters and warm summers, promotes the existence of a varied catalogue of species of animals and plants, creating an own ecosystem. The mountain goat reigns the summits of the Sierra de Gredos. It is also very common to find aquatic animals in the gorges and pools, such as otters or trout.
Extremadura is known for its great ornithological richness, being La Vera one of the most important places of permanent habitat or place of passage of many birds of Spain, thus increasing ornithological tourism in the area.
The oaks, holm oaks, chestnuts and fruit trees such as cherry and fig trees extend throughout the area of La Vera, generating a characteristic mountain landscape but without forgetting the essence of Extremadura.
Where we are?
Just 2 hours from Madrid you can enjoy nature in its purest form. If you come from this city, you can get to Navalmoral de la Mata on the A5 motorway and take the EX119 road towards Talayuela. Continue straight until you reach Losar de la Vera.If we continue by the Autovía de la Plata (A66) from Seville or Salamanca, we will arrive to Plasencia and take the EX203 road towards Tejeda de Tiétar until we reach Losar de la Vera.
